Work From Home-What You Need To Get Started

Updated on October 11, 2011

Work From Home-The Beginning

You have made up your mind and now you know you are going to work from home. In most cases this means you will be trying to make money off the internet because these days they both go together. At the start of your work at home career you will need to buy a few things that you will need. These things are important in order to see you succeed.

For the most part you wont need to spend a lot of money but it will cost you a few bucks to get started. It will be no where near what it would cost to start a brick and mortar business. Below you will find a few details about what you may need to get started when you are ready to work from home. The few things listed below will give you a good head start to get going with your new internet business.

The Physical Investment

You will need someplace to work and something to work on. What this means is a desk or something like that. You dont need a lot to get your work from home business off the ground and running.

You dont need a big desk. You just need someplace to be able to plant yourself and start working. Heck some people dont even bother with a desk. Many people just get a laptop and work off their knees. This is okay but I strongly suggest even a small desk. This gives you a sense of having to be someplace to deal with your work from home business.

You dont even need a very fancy computer. You do need something that has enough room to store files and the work you will be storing on it that are relevant to your work from home business.

Time Is Money

You may think that when you work from home its all peaches and cream and you may think you have all the time in the world to do what ever you want to with. This really isnt even close to being true. When you work from home you need to make every second and minute count. Its too easy to get distracted and after that happens you are always trying to play catch up. So anytime you can do something to speed things up it really is a good thing.

One of those things is making the small investment and getting high seed internet. Your time is very important when you work from home. When you need to download something you want it now and not three hours from now. The difference is something that would take a few hours on normal speed will download in only a couple minutes when you start dealing with a high speed modem.

Do I Need A Website?

A lot of people you talk to about your work from home plan will tell you that you dont really need a website. This may be okay for a little while when you are getting started. However eventually you will want to get a website because you really will realize how much money you are throwing away by not having one.

If you plan to work from home as a full time gig then you really will need a website. You will need it sooner then later as well. You are going to need a web presence where you will be able to send potential customers or followers to. It doesnt cost much but you will need to buy a domain and rent some hosting. This will give you space on a server that will let you build your website on. A domain name usually costs around 10 bucks a year and hosting can be as cheap as around 5 bucks a month.

A Very Important Tool

A very important part in your work from home online presence is a tool called an auto responder. You have heard a lot of people say that the money is in the list. Well on the internet the list gets started from an auto responder.

What an auto responder does is legally collect email addresses so that the responder can send out different responses including offers from time to time. If someone had me choose just one tool online it would have to be an autoresponder. The cost of an auto responder will pay for itself thousands of times over as your work from home business takes off.

Free Or Not Free

One more expense that I will say right now that isnt a must is paying to give away freebies. Please dont get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with giving away freebies. The point is there are thousands of free things out there that you can give away and they wouldnt cost you a penny.

What happens is people agree to give you their contact info in exchange for a free gift that you will give them in return. What I suggest is you develop your own product for give away. Even these days developing your own product is becoming very easy.

A Final Word

So as you can see if you really want to work from home it will cost you a few dollars. I sure wouldnt look at it as a sacrifice for a couple reasons. The first because it really is very little money and the second reason being because these are things that will really help you work from home. With the tools listed above you will be getting your business running in no time.
