What To Expect When You Quit Smoking-Good And Bad

Updated on May 9, 2011

What To Expect When You Quit Smoking

So you want to know what to expect when you quit smoking.  I know you have a ton of questions you want answered and I know you are terrified.

It really is common and okay to feel this way.  After all smoking has been such a big part of your life for so long.

Your body is shaking because you are scared.  You are always finding excuses not to quit.  For some reason or another today just doesn't seem to be a good day.

I can absolutely understand what you are going through.  You think you want something but you have no idea what to expect when you quit smoking.

Before we go any further you need to look in a mirror and make the commitment to your self.  You will never quit for someone else and you will never quit because someone told you to.

What To Expect When You Quit Smoking-The Very Beginning

When you are sitting back and you have finally decided that the time has come and it is time to quit you then wonder what to expect when you quit smoking.

The absolute first thing you need to do is set a date.  Once that is done you cant sway from that.  No matter what happens that day has to be set in stone.  That has to be the last day you ever smoke a cigarette.

The next thing you want to do is tell as many people as possible.  You want to tell everyone the day you will quit smoking.  Some people don't think this to be a great idea but in my opinion it keeps us accountable.

Ultimately the final decision is up to us but it is neat to have a bunch of supporters in your corner especially when you don't know what to expect when you quit smoking.

What To Expect When You Quit Smoking-The Days Leading Up To The Big Day

I suggest you set a date about 3 months in the future. This gives you a lot of time to reassure yourself and to get ready for the big day.

Every single day leading up to the big day you want to continue to remind yourself of your quit date.

On my journey I reminded myself a couple times a day right up until the final day.

The day I was scheduled to quit I woke up in the morning and had about 10 cigarettes left.  I decided a long time before this that if I had any cigarettes left on my quit day I would smoke them and be done with it.

The ten smokes lasted me until just before noon and just like that I was a non smoker.  The problem is I had no idea just like many of you dont know what to expect when you quit smoking.

What To Expect When You Quit Smoking-Ups And Downs

So I guess its important for you to know what to expect when you quit smoking.

First off you will begin to feel better within hours. One of the biggest reasons I wanted to quit smoking was because I was having a hard time breathing. Well, within a few days I could breathe a lot better.

I definitely had more spring to my step and felt like I wanted to get off my butt and do something.

That was all good but the situation wasn't all easy.  Of course I wanted a smoke.  After a couple hours I started to suffer from withdrawals and I kept telling myself that I wanted a cigarette.

I was already starting to replace nicotine with food.  In the first three days it really was hell.  The main way I got through was one minute at a time.

Every minute I would force myself to make it to the next minute.  Every hour I would force myself to make it to the next hour and so on and so on.

Yes that took will power but at the end of the day I knew I wanted to quit smoking and I was going to do what ever it took.

What to expect when you quit smoking really does go a lot deeper then one hub.  Eventually as my quit smoking journey continues I will be writing more and more hubs so I hope you are all ready to read.

What To Expect When You Quit Smoking-Chances Are You Will Need Help

You need to know what to expect when you quit smoking.

There is a very good chance you will need some help and that's okay. Needing help is nothing to be embarrassed of.

The thing is you do want to be careful what you buy when it comes to the Internet.

Am I an expert? Dam rights I am. I put a plan in place and after smoking two packs a day for 30 years I am an official non smoker.

There are not a lot of books or programs that I would suggest online. However there are two that I really do suggest you look at if you really are serious about quitting smoking.

The first one can be looked at by clicking on What To Expect When You Quit Smoking

The other one is Stop Smoking by Allen Carr which you can find in the amazon link next to this.

If you know me you know I do not recommend a lot of products here and if I do you can be assured they are good ones.

Its just a little help so you know what to expect when you quit smoking.
