Pike Fishing Techniques- Man Crazy
Its late season fall time. The cool breeze most certainly has winter in it. You are experiencing every fisher persons dream. Its early morning and you are about to take your first cast.
Its all going to hit in a domino effect. First you will cast, then you will hook, then set the hook and finally you will land that late season monster pike.
The Northern Pike looks like a torpedo as it is fighting and trying to get away from you as you are doing everything in your power to hang on and keep the fish on your line.
For a fisher person these feelings don't get much better then they are at this very moment. The Northern Pike has just inhaled your bait. You fought and landed the monster. Its all the pike fishing techniques that you have learned over the years that gave you this opportunity.
Pike Fishing Techniques-The Right Location
A great tip when it comes to pike fishing techniques is do your homework and then head out to a lake that is known for its big pike. When we are talking great big Northern Pike you cant go wrong with fishing the Northern Manitoba lakes.
So now that you are at the lake you will need a starting point. Trophy lakes are where you want to be if you want to catch trophy fish. Since we are now at the end of the summer the big cabbage growth is fully grown. Now that winter is quickly coming upon us the trophy pike will be on the prowl for those big meals. They need some big meals to help them through the winter months.
Since you found the perfect cabbage weed spot its time to catch some fish out of it. The first thing you want to do is fish the edges of the weed bed. When you are approaching you need to do it very slowly and quietly so you dont scare that trophy away. Once you finish fishing the edges you need to work the middle of the weed bed. This is very important when it comes to pike fishing techniques.
You may notice you are having a lot of fun catching the small pike but at the end of the day if you are catching small fish you probably aren't going to catch the big one there. If there are a lot of small pike then they obviously aren't scared of the big fish that obviously aren't there. Large Northern Pike are very much to themselves and they don't move very far. The best place to still find these large Northern's is in the cabbage or rocky ledges next to the weed beds.
As you move forward in your season be sure to use big baits and big lures. You will need big lures and honestly the bigger the better. Big pike will go after big hooks. You may laugh at those 12 inch lures that you see in your local sportsman's den but honestly when going after big pike 12 inches is a great length.
There really is nothing cooler then seeing a trophy pike come swimming up and grabbing your hook. The problem is watching can also be a bad thing. It is very common to set a hook well before you as a fisher person even feels the bite. Its called getting too excited. It is so very important to feel the bite before you set the hook.
The coolest thing when using pike fishing techniques is when you hook into a monster and you see the cabbage being mowed down just like a lawn mower. It is at that point that you will finally realize chances are you caught the big one.
